Hosted and organised\nby Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) and building\non the theme <strong><em>\u201cThe Power of Influence\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, the Global Women\u2019s Forum\nDubai aims to highlight dynamic women across\ngovernments and the business world, as well as their significant impact and\nvaluable contributions across the global economy and society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nForum aims to focus on the importance of adopting policies and building\npartnerships that heighten women\u2019s role and influence in four main focus areas:\n<strong>government, economy, society and future<\/strong>. Each of the four areas will be\naddressed through extensive sessions led by local and global speakers and experts\nfrom various sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A\nnew global achievement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her\nHighness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the\nUAE Gender Balance Council, President of Dubai Women Establishment, and wife of\nHis Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and\nMinister of Presidential Affairs, highlighted: \u201cOrganising and hosting an\ninternational event of this stature and significance is a pivotal opportunity\nfor women in\nthe region. The Forum will highlight global trends impacting gender balance,\nexplore solutions to the most pressing challenges, and celebrate women\u2019s achievements\nfrom across the world. The UAE has seen and shared inspiring stories on women\u2019s\nempowerment and has made tremendous efforts to ensure the representation of\nEmirati women in the workforce, and across all walks of life in line with the\nDubai vision of continuous economic and social development.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe\nadvancement of Emirati women, and the enhancement of their capacities and\ncapabilities, is an affirmation of their prominent and imperative role in\ndriving the socio-economic future of the UAE, which has been established as a\npriority in the country\u2019s national strategy. This is in line with the vision\nand commitment of the UAE\u2019s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan\nAl Nahyan, who worked relentlessly on empowering women academically, and encouraging\nthem to actively participate in all fields.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her Highness added: \u201cEmirati women have reached heightened\nroles across various sectors and occupations, thanks to our wise leadership\u2019s\ncontinuous support to champion women as equal contributors to the prosperity of\nthe nation\u2019s progression and development. The UAE offers women the necessary tools\nto achieve excellence, which are underlined in the UN Sustainable Development\nGoals 2030.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mohammed\nbin Rashid\u2019s support<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her\nHighness praised His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum\u2019s\ncontinuous support to Emirati women, as well as his commitment towards\nincreasing their participation in economic, social and scientific fields, both\nlocally and internationally<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GWFD\n2020 follows the success of the inaugural 2016 event, held under the theme\n\u201cLet\u2019s Innovate\u201d, which marked the first Global Women\u2019s Forum in the Middle\nEast and North Africa.&nbsp; The event\nattracted more than 100 speakers and 3,000 attendees including government\nofficials, business leaders, academics and representatives from international\norganisations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dubai\u2019s\ncommitment to hosting events such as GWFD reflects the trust that the\ninternational community has placed in the UAE in terms of organizing successful\nglobal events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A\nhistoric leap<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her\nHighness noted that organising the Global Women\u2019s Forum Dubai coincides with\nthe country\u2019s success in the field of gender balance, wherein the number of\nwomen representatives in the Federal National Council (FNC) increased to 50%\nunder the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan,\nPresident of the UAE. This historic decree has established the UAE among\nleading countries in terms of equality in parliamentary representation, in\naddition to the successes that Emirati women have achieved in economic, social\nand educational spheres, as women make up approximately 70% of university\ngraduates in the country; 56% of UAE government university graduates in\nscience, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are women; and the literacy rate of women in the UAE is 95.8%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Global partnerships <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her\nHighness emphasised the importance of the Global Women\u2019s Forum as a platform to\nhighlight Emirati women\u2019s achievements, showcase international efforts in\nsupport of women, as well as exchange insights, ideas, and best practices on\nhow to overcome challenges faced by women worldwide, and create a\npowerful,&nbsp;global network&nbsp;capable of boosting the influence of women\nacross the world by conceptualising innovative and concrete&nbsp;action\nplans&nbsp;to encourage women\u2019s contribution to society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A\nclear vision <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HE\nMona Ghanem Al Marri, Managing Director and Chairperson of the Board of Dubai\nWomen Establishment (DWE), affirmed the Establishment\u2019s goal to translate the\nleadership\u2019s vision into reality through organising events and programs that emphasize\nand promote the role of women in contributing to the country\u2019s growth and success.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DWE\nhas a clear and compelling goal which aims to enhance Emirati women\u2019s status,\nand to support them to pursue global leadership positions through innovative programs\nas well as international and local partnerships. This is in line with DWE\u2019s\nstrategic plan 2017-2021, the Dubai Plan 2021, and the UAE Vision 2021, all of which\naim to fortify the nation\u2019s efforts to drive the contribution of women in society\nand the national economy, as well as elevate their representation in decision-making\npositions in the public and private sectors.
