The\nMoU was signed by <strong>Her Excellency Mona Al Marri<\/strong>, Chairperson of the Board\nand Managing Director of DWE, and <strong>His Excellency Henrik Landerholm<\/strong>,\nAmbassador of Sweden to the United Arab Emirates on behalf of the Nordic\nembassies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MoU was signed in the presence of<strong> Carl M\u00f6rner<\/strong>, First\nSecretary and Deputy Head of Mission, Swedish Embassy; <strong>Ambassador\nFranz-Michael Skjold Mellbin<\/strong>, Danish Embassy; Finnish <strong>Ambassador\nMarianne Nissil\u00e4 <\/strong>and<strong> Siri Borgen<\/strong>, First Secretary and Deputy Head of\nMission, Norwegian Embassy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two-day GWFD 2020, held at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, UAE, under\nthe patronage of <strong>His Highness Sheikh\nMohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum<\/strong>, Vice President and Prime Minister of the\nUnited Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai, concluded on 17 February. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reflecting the UAE and Nordic countries\u2019 shared belief that women\u2019s active participation in the workforce is crucial for sustainable and inclusive socio-economic development, the partnership has been established to launch a new mentorship scheme, <strong>\u2018YES!<\/strong>\u2019, for young female professionals and entrepreneurs. The initiative will provide support to promising Emirati career women from both the public and private sectors, through mentorship with senior Nordic business executives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> The \u2018YES!\u2019 mentorship programme will run for one year, with participation from 20 mentors and mentees. The initiative features two joint gatherings, to take place during 2020 and 2021, which will  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>provide opportunities for mentees to benefit from\nknowledge-exchange, networking opportunities and leadership training. In March 2021, during the Expo thematic week\non Women and Girls, the \u2018YES!\u2019 mentees will graduate during a joint DWE-Nordic ceremony\nat the Swedish Pavilion in Expo 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commenting on the partnership, <strong>Her Excellency Mona Al Marri<\/strong>,\nsaid: \u201cWe are proud to be collaborating with the Nordic Embassies in the UAE to\nprovide valuable support to young female Emirati professionals, as part of\nongoing efforts to foster the next generation of women leaders. The \u2018YES!\u2019\nprogramme is a reflection of both the UAE and Nordic countries\u2019 commitment to\nenhance the vital contribution of talented women to national progress and\ndevelopment, which is also at the heart of what we\u2019re aiming to achieve through\na range of discussions and debate among the world\u2019s leading thinkers and experts\nat Global Women\u2019s Forum Dubai 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>H.E. Henrik\nLanderholm, <\/strong>added<strong>: \u201c<\/strong>I am very honoured to represent Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway from\nthe Nordic countries and sign the partnership agreement with Dubai Women\nEstablishment. Nordic countries have for a century been champions in enhancing\nwomen&#8217;s rights and also enabling women as human beings with equal rights to be\nall they can be. Hence, we have experienced an impressive row of female leaders\n\u2013 prime ministers and ministers, parliamentarians and believe it or not, even\nsome female generals and several police commissioners.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe UAE and its\nleadership have shown women&#8217;s role in society over the last 50 years. The news\nthis morning that the UAE is weighing the option of pro-longing parental leave\neven further, and to extend it also to men, is just one of many signs of this\ncommitment. The UAE and the Nordic countries share the understanding that\nwomen&#8217;s active participation in the workforce is crucial for sustainable and\ninclusive socio-economic development, and key to fulfilling Agenda 2030,\u201d he\ncontinued.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collaboration follows the joint seminar, \u201cWomen in the Workspace: UAE and Nordic Perspectives\u201d hosted by DWE and the Danish Embassy in the UAE, in December 2019.
