We organise the world\u2019s information and make it easily\naccessible.\u201d<\/em><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dubai, UAE, <\/strong><strong>17<\/strong><strong>\nFebruary 2020<\/strong>:\nGlobal Women\u2019s Forum Dubai (GWDF) hosted Google News Initiative Teaching\nFellow, Samya Ayish, who shared insights on what people are searching for on\nGoogle and the impact this has on journalism during a breakout session which\ntook place at the Society Hub.Ayish explained to the audience how the Google\nNews Initiative elevates and strengthens quality journalism, evolves business\nmodels to drive sustainable growth and empowers news organisations through\ntechnical innovation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GWFD 2020, held at the Madinat Jumeirah in\nDubai, UAE, under the patronage of <strong>His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid\nAl Maktoum<\/strong>, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates,\nand Ruler of Dubai, concluded on 17 February. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google Trends was first introduced in 2006 and is\nnow available globally. Ayish explained that the tool can be used to understand\nbehaviours in searching for specific events, common words and how to write\nthem. Additionally, she touched on discovering new stories, comparing two\ntopics at a time and methods of exploring the most asked questions on the\nGoogle search engine itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ayish explained: <\/strong>\u201cWe create tools and platforms that will make\nthe lives of journalists easier and more flexible. We organise the world\u2019s\ninformation and make it easily accessible.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ayish emphasised\nthe importance of searching a term and the major discrepancies it can cause\nwith the difference of only one letter. She made use of several different\nexamples including company names and famous actors\u2019 names to portray the change\nin trends, particularly when it comes to the Arabic and English language. Ayish\nexplained the effect it has within the region as the Arabic language does not\nhave the entire English alphabet available for translation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ayish added:\n<\/strong>\u201cThese are indicators of what you should be looking at. They\u2019re not\nnumbers, they\u2019re not statistics. They\u2019re highlights and insights that give you\nan indication of what people are searching for in each region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the\nsession, Ayish elaborated on how to use the tool and what filters may be\napplied based on a particular search. She also encouraged all Gmail users to\ntake advantage of the tool as it is free, particularly those in the media and\njournalism industry as it can assist them for future searches, coverage and\nmore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Global Women\u2019s Forum Dubai 2020 was organised\nby Dubai Women Establishment, which is led by <strong>Her Highness Sheikha Manal\nbint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum<\/strong>, President of the UAE Gender Balance\nCouncil and wife of HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime\nMinister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building on its theme, <strong><em>\u2018The Power of\nInfluence\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, Global Women\u2019s Forum Dubai 2020 was focused on discussing\nhow effective policies and partnerships in four key areas \u2013 <strong>Government<\/strong>, <strong>Economy,\nSociety, and the Future<\/strong> \u2013 can further women\u2019s positive impact for a better\nfuture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Samya Ayish touched on discovering new stories and comparing two topics at a time to identify the most asked questions on Google Samya Ayish: \u201cWe create tools and platforms that will make the lives of journalists easier and more flexible.
