We are here to learn from each other and inspire one another how to empower women of our societies so they can contribute to human civilization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GWFD 2020, which\nis taking place at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, UAE, under the patronage of <strong>His\nHighness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum<\/strong>, Vice President and Prime\nMinister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai, will conclude on 17\nFebruary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the session, which highlighted the progress\nUzbekistan has made in the field of women\u2019s empowerment and the achievements of\nthe country\u2019s women in all spheres, Mirziyoyeva said that one of the key aims of the country\u2019s new strategy is&nbsp;to ensure human rights, which cannot be achieved without\nensuring women\u2019s rights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUzbek women are capable of contributing to global\nprogress and our aim is to create the ground for this,\u201d she said. \u201cToday the\ngender situation has changed in our country with our President\u2019s continuous\nefforts to transform women\u2019s role in society. Gender balance will transform\nwomen\u2019s role in decision making and as a bonus, the country will be able to\nsolve social problems more effectively as women are more sensitive to social\nissues,\u201d she added.\n\nMirziyoyeva pointed\nout that Uzbekistan\nis working closely with the United Nations, World Bank, Islamic Development\nBank and other international institutions to foster development in spheres \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>related to women empowerment. She further stressed\nthe country\u2019s unwavering commitment to work further in this direction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInternational\nstandards are gradually changing our social life, boosting gender issues and\nimproving daily realities of our women. Within the last few years, Uzbekistan\nadopted several important laws on the protection of reproductive health,\nguarantees on equal rights and opportunities for women and men and the\nprotection of women from oppression and violence,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Referring to the results of the last parliamentary\nelections, Mirziyoyeva said the number of women in parliament had doubled\nand reached 32 per cent of the total number of deputies. There are also 24\nfemale medalists in international sports competitions. \u201cWe see women\nprofessionals sparking in all spheres and our aim is to create a safer\nenvironment for them to realise their potential,\u201d she said noting that their\nnext mission is to increase the number of women in executive roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sharing details of Uzbekistan\u2019s new <strong>Commission on\nGender Equality<\/strong>, Mirziyoyeva explained that the country has created a legal framework for gender equality, which is tasked with integrating\ngender equality in all spheres of life and across all government organisations.\nThe commission also provides legal assistance in resolving gender\ndiscrimination. It\u2019s also responsible for educating people on gender equality\nand increasing gender sensitivity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joining the discussion <strong>Nozima Davletova<\/strong><strong>, Senior Consultant On Gender Issues \u2013 Uzbekistan<\/strong>, said: \u201cThe commission plans to strengthen the role\nof women in social, economic and political spheres. We have introduced new\naspects to the strategy, such as providing a protective order for those\nexperiencing violence. We have created more than 200 shelters for those in\nneed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the progress achieved, the speakers said\nthere is still considerable challenges facing women, such as with the cultural\nsetting, which represents them as solely mothers and daughters. \u201cWomen are\nstill suffering from lack of resources and struggling to balance family duties\nand work in cities.
